Keep your rates down after an accident with Accident Forgiveness
Accidents can happen to anyone, even the safest drivers on the road. When you cause an accident, your auto insurance rates can rise significantly. Nationwide believes that drivers like you deserve a break. That’s why we offer Accident Forgiveness.
What is accident forgiveness?
Accident Forgiveness, available in select states, is an auto insurance option that helps you avoid a rate increase following the first at-fault accident on your policy. As an added bonus, Nationwide extends Accident Forgiveness to other drivers on your policy – including teen drivers. But it can only be used for one forgiven accident per policy.
Save money in the long term
Accident Forgiveness insurance coverage is an option you buy, but the price of it can more than offset the rate increase that would kick in after an accident. Your insurance rate is based on a number of factors, like age and location, and an additional rate increase could make good coverage harder to fit into your budget. Accident Forgiveness can help you control these costs.
Nationwide rewards auto insurance policyholders in other ways, as well. If you have at least five years’ driving experience without an at-fault accident, you could save up to 10%. And if you insure more than one car with Nationwide you could save up to 20%. These and other car insurance discounts can add up to significant savings.
Drivers age 16 to 24 who maintain a B average or better are eligible for a discount.
Save on auto insurance with a good student discount
When your teenager begins to drive, your level of stress goes up – and so does the cost of your policy due to teen car insurance rates. That’s because teens are calculated to be a higher risk the first few years they’re driving. A good student discount can reduce the expense of insuring your teen driver, making it more affordable. Here’s what you should know about car insurance and good student discounts.
What a student needs to get a good student discount
Nationwide offers a student discount on car insurance for drivers 16 to 24. They must be full-time high school or college students and maintain a minimum B average to qualify for the car insurance student discount.
How to show that your student is a good student
When you purchase your car insurance, you’ll need to furnish proof of academic achievement, such as a current grade card or a form signed by a school administrator. If the student is homeschooled, the results from a standardized test, such as the PSAT, SAT or ACT, may be used. The homeschooled student needs to be in the top 20% of that test’s national performance.
Complete a state-approved safety course and get a discount. (You may have to be 55 or over to be eligible.)
Get a defensive driver discount and start saving
Accidents can happen to anyone. If you take a defensive driver class, you may lower the chances of having an accident – and pay less for car insurance. Nationwide offers defensive driver discounts in select states to customers over 55 who complete such a class.
Find a defensive driver class
Many states offer accident prevention or defensive driving classes. These courses are usually certified by a state’s Department of Public Safety or Motor Vehicles, and are available online or at local driver’s education schools.
What to expect at a defensive driver class
The classes typically include a review of traffic laws, environmental hazards, defensive driving techniques, basic car maintenance, and drug and alcohol education. Drivers must successfully complete the state-certified course with a passing grade to earn the defensive driver discount.
In other states, the discount is available to drivers of specific ages who have successfully passed an accident prevention or defensive driving course. The amount of the defensive driving insurance discount varies, but usually runs around 5% off your auto insurance premium.
More ways to save
Nationwide wants to reward you for being a good driver. In addition to a defensive driving discount, you could save up to 10% additionally with an accident free discount if you have at least 5 years of driving experience and have been free from at-fault accidents and major violations for the last 5 years. Nationwide offers a variety of other auto insurance discounts too, so you can find the auto insurance you need at a price that’s right for you.
